I have been considering the use of draw reins to help my horse along in training. what do you all think? maybe some pros and cons? I have heard both good and bad. please a little help. Im a bit confused on all the information out there on them. thanks!

Hey, It depends why you want to use the draw reins, if you are trying to get your horse to work on the bit and frame up I would first try to get him to loosen his barrel, and body up, and get him to work off your leg, then he should round his back and frame up, if he is then still a bit in front of the verticle just use soft elastic rein aids to encourage him more on the bit, that is at least what I do with my horse and it works great, the caution with draw reins is that your horse will get heavy on the forehand, and go into false frame, and even though his head might be down, he might won't be using his back and hindquarters properly, which will then lead to him actually hollowing his back and overflexing..hopefully that helps!
