o ya. our county fair is right in the middle of summer and each year the show day (yes only one day. not many riders where i live, lol!) its over 100 degrees. not much fun on top of the reg. nerves. last year it was so hot the judge actually allowed for the riders to leave the ring and come back later in the class if they didnt feel right or even just needed water. i thought this was really nice of him. he made sure that everyone knew that they wouldnt be penalized for leaving so no one was too nervous to leave. i think that this really solved some major problems. i hope more shows start to do this for the horse and riders' sake! :P

some shows i have gotten SO nervous (although i'm kind of over it now, that was mainly at my first shows) i couldnt eat anything until after my first class. usually i try not to, or i try to eat WAY before so my stomach has time to settle, just in case, but a few shows ago i didnt know my classes were coming up soon and ate like a whole bag of grapes first lol, luckily i didnt get nervous that show, and lately i've been eating more and more before shows and it isnt bothering me, and i seem to be getting less nervous (well i feel less nervous) with each show!

lol kinda random story but it does involove eating adn showing lol~
we (my trainer, my friends Emily and Claire, and Becca, and some parents who were there at the time (and this other lady showing with our barn at the time)) were all going to write down our orders and one of the not hsowing ppl would go and get subway for us. but that day the showing scedule was SO crazy and random that someone was showing almost every second. so it ended up being like 4 o clock and everyone was really hungry because all really anyone had had to eat was concession stand breakfast. So inally someone went out to get subway, and i happened to be about to ride at that point. So i told them my order and hopped on and while they were gone i showed in two classes. When htey got back i was SO hungry and i had like a 10 minite wait still before my class so i walked my pony over to where our barns stalls are at shows. i asked my trainer if i could get off and sit down nad she said she didnt think it would be much longer, and it would be better to stay on. So I got like 4 napkins and but them over the frount of my saddle and my pony and asked my dad to hand me my sandwhich from subway lol. I leaned foreward so i wouldnt get crumbs on anything but the napkins, and let my pony walk around a bit in frount of our barn area while i ate half a subway sandwhich, and drank some dr pepper, then i gave my dad my sandwhich, napkins, and drink, i stretgned my tack and clothes, and went off to do a flat class real fast before returning to my meal lol. i think i won a ribbon in that flat too lol =p.

i never used to eat before i showed, b/c i always showed in the morning, and i thought i was too nervous to eat, but now i eat before i show, even if its a poptart on the way to the show(lol) and it really does help.

i'm never hungry before a show because usually it's a mixture of nerves and waking up so early. but it's soooo important to eat. and drink a lot. can't tell you how many people i've seen faint or almost faint at summer shows because they just don't drink enough.
